Maidwell Primary School

"An Oustanding School in a peaceful, rural setting"

At Maidwell Primary School our curriculum is based on the New National Curriculum and seeks to be broad and balanced. The curriculum is designed to cater for the range of interests in each class and focusses on the interests of particular groups.

We aim to promote pupils’ spiritual, moral, social and cultural development and help to prepare them for the opportunities, responsibilities and experiences of life.

The curriculum is underpinned by a clearly defined curriculum map, which ensures continuity across Key Stages 1 and 2. Wherever possible, cross-curricular links are identified, enabling children to make connections and transfer knowledge, skills and understanding in different contexts. We use a variety of approaches to learning and teaching, including whole class teaching and group and individual teaching.

Pupils are encouraged to work independently and co-operatively in pairs and in small groups. Teachers and Teaching Assistants work closely together to ensure continuity and progression from year to year.

We believe that learning should be interesting and fun and we aim to enable learning in a variety of ways to suit the specific needs and learning styles of all our pupils.

The outdoors is used as much as possible and a dedicated outdoor resource has recently been developed to support the outdoors as a learning environment.  We have many "wow" days across the course of the year, which stimulate the children and inspire their learning.  These "wow" days can be in the form of visits out, visitors to school or special themed days.  e.g. recently two Art/PHSE days created images which will continue to support the children's understanding of protective behaviours.
