Maidwell Primary School

"An Oustanding School in a peaceful, rural setting"

At Maidwell Primary School we believe children should be encouraged to be creative and to develop independent working practices. The activities we set for pupils out of school revolve around The Learning Log.

What is the Learning Log?

The Learning Log is a child’s own journal of work. Each week the children are given tasks which are closely linked to the work taking place in the Classroom. We encourage the children to take responsibility for their learning and the open-ended nature of the tasks develops the creativity and independence we seek in our children. The Learning Log enables children to take ownership of their learning and allows them to approach tasks in their preferred learning style.

The Learning Log provides parents with a valuable insight into the work being undertaken in school as well as enabling parental support and encouragement.

At the beginning of each half term a Curriculum Newsletter provides parents with information about what your child will be learning during the half term.

Our Homework Policy provides more detailed information about requirements for particular year groups.

Help for Parents

At Maidwell Primary School, we recognise that sometimes your children may need help at home when working on homework. We also understand that the way many of our parents were taught Maths may be different to how we do it here at school.

So that you can be better equipped to help your child with their numeracy, we have provided a handful of helpful Parent Guide leaflets which provide you with guidance on not just how we teach addition, subtraction, multiplication and divison, we also introduce you to some of the terminology which which you may be unfamiliar.

The leaflets cover both Key Stage 1 and 2 and are simple to grasp.

Our "Parents Guide" series is short yet effective and are designed to help you to understand the expectations for your child in respect of:

  • Handwriting
  • Homework
  • Marking and Feedback
