Relationships and Health Education

At Maidwell Primary School we teach a Relationships and Health Education curriculum through Discovery Education.

The programme develops skills and knowledge in a values-based context which enables schools to convey and enhance their own values, learning and behaviour, supporting these whole-school approaches to developing pupil wellbeing.  Each topic contains age-appropriate content, developing themes so that pupils are building on their skills and understanding each year.

Sex Education

Much of the Sex Education that we teach at Maidwell is part of the statutory curriculum and is included in Science and RHE lessons across the entire school.

Children are always taught according to age and ability in a sensitive way that takes into account each child's feelings and response to the subject.

There are some elements for our Year 6 children that parents can withdraw their children from should they wish.  These lessons are detailed to parents, providing them with an opportunity to view the materials and lesson plans before they are taught, so they can make an informed decision about their child attending those specific lessons.

Parents cannot withdraw their children from the statutory Science and RHE curriculum based lessons although we are more than happy to explain what these lessons include.
